Q: What
experience do I need to become a CASA volunteer?
A: CASA volunteers
come from all walks of life, with varying ethnic, educational and
employment backgrounds. Every CASA volunteer completes a 40 hour
training, provided free by CASA staff, that prepares them in all aspects
of advocating for an abused child.
Q: How much time
is required to be a CASA volunteer?
A: CASA volunteers,
on average, will spend 15-20 hours a month on his/her case. However,
some cases require more or less time depending on the circumstances.
CASA staff makes every effort to match volunteers with cases according
to the amount of time they have available.
Q: What does the
training involve?
A: Training to
become a volunteer with CASA of Central Texas is a comprehensive 40 hour
independent study program that covers everything from court procedures
to working with families in crisis. It includes class time, court
observation, and at-home reading and written assignments.
Q: How do I sign
up for training?
A: First, you will
need to complete a Volunteer Application. You may request an
application by speaking to a Volunteer Coordinator at 512-392-3578 or
830-626-2272. Or, you can click on the “Apply Online” link on the
“Volunteer” drop down box at the top of this page. Once our office has
received your completed application, we will contact you to set up a
Pre-Training Interview to enroll you in an upcoming training class.
